The Forgotten Heroines of the Easter Rising

April 15, 2017 @ 4:00 pm

Open Invitation to the exhibition
“The Forgotten Heroines of the Easter Rising”

“Ni neart gur cur le Ceile”

By Irish sculptor Betty Newman Maguire

Co-Sponsored by USM History Department USM Women and Gender Studies

“Irish Women were not cowering at home, invisible, as war broke out. They actively responded, whether fighting, supporting their families or coming to the aid of victims. The Forgotten Heroines of the Easter Rising is the focus for Betty Newman Maguire’s work where she has created an installation to remember the vital part that over 300 brave Irish women played in the struggle for Irish freedom, thus ensuring that those who were long described as the “Forgotten Women of 1916” are not forgotten anymore”
