A History of the Portland Irish: The Forest City Hibernians

Join us January 31st at 7 PM for the launch of the newest book by our own genealogist and historian Matthew Jude Baker: A History of the Portland Irish: The Forest City Hibernians.

Click here for more information on the book launch event.

This meticulously researched book covers the lives and history of Portland’s Irish from the late sixteenth century to the dawn of the twentieth century.  With many waves of emigration from Ireland during this period, several Irish neighborhoods sprung up in Portland, and the Irish immediately made their political, religious and social marks on the city and the state of Maine.  Barker’s book brings to life the fascinating history of Portland’s Irish, complete with photographs.
