Who We Are

Maine Irish Heritage Center EntranceIn January of 2003, the City of Portland presented the keys to the building known as the Irish Cathedral to the Maine Irish Heritage Center. Saint Dominic’s Church became the second heritage center in New England and currently holds its place of honor in the state as the Center for all things Irish in Maine.

The beautiful and historic building is once again alive with book launchings, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Bloomsday events, weddings, meetings, ceili dances, language classes, genealogy, presentations, storytelling, pipe band lessons, Irish dance, film festivals, poetry readings, walking history tours, neighborhood meetings and educational forums. In short, the church is once again bustling with Irish life in Maine.
